BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU
BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU
Derived from Judo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is one of the traditional martial arts that uses joint locks and leverage. Primarily ground fighting techniques, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu has expanded to world wide competitions of all age and skill levels.
Our BJJ classes are taught by black belt instructor Casey Baynes and consist of both Gi and no Gi training. BJJ develops the art of submission grappling and develops the ground aspect of fighting. BJJ utilizes technique and leverage to overwhelm an opponent usually resulting in a tap out (submission).
Classes usually consist of stretching, emphasis on proper technique, and live grappling. BJJ is a great way to improve cardio, strength, flexibility, self-defense, and is a key aspect to any successful fighting system.
Self defense classes can be tailor-made upon request for businesses or professionals. Our staff has trained law enforcement since 2005. The methods taught in our self defense classes range from hand-to-hand combat to escape. Methods of protection from improvised weapons to firearms are also taught.
At MegAlodon Gym our MMA instruction consists of a combination of standing, ground, and takedown. Instructors emphasize proper techniques unique to MMA. Competitors will be well versed in each aspect of our full Mixed Martial Arts fighting system.

Megalodon will be hosting CAPOEIRA classes on Thursdays from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. These classes are open to both kids and adults. The Capoeira classes will be taught by Nicolas Ayala, who is associated with Capoeira Maculelê Athens.
Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian art that incorporates music, dance and martial arts. It integrates offensive and defensive strikes and movements, take-downs and sweeps with acrobatics, dance-like movements and music. The African slaves, brought to Brazil in the 1600’s, created Capoeira as a way to defend themselves and gain their freedom by force. The slaves disguised their fighting method as a dance to avoid punishment by their slave masters.
Capoeira also holds some ties to traditional Thai kickboxing in that they both incorporate music as a strong element of the sport. Capoeira also includes acrobatics to its form. Capoeira is uniquely different from all other martial arts due to its multi-faceted structure and its spherical (as opposed to linear) approach to the combative arts.
Capoeira would make an excellent addition to your training, improving cardio, flexibility, and endurance - all while having tons of FUN!
